With the National Programme South Rotterdam, the government, municipality, educational and care institutes, housing corporations and the business world are working on a new perspective for South Rotterdam. The programme’s purpose is to improve the living conditions of the residents, with the ultimate aim to ensure that  in twenty years’ time, South Rotterdam will do just as well as the other three big cities in our country.

Furthermore, Rotterdam is one of the one hundred cities in the world that is working on a resilience strategy, and prepares itself for most of the chances and challenges that the future will bring. The strategy is to create a future-proof and resilient city with an energetic and balanced society. In collaboration with partners in the city, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and EMI work together on a resilient future of the city. They do this in the programme Urban Innovation. Finishing the programme Sense of the City has resulted in a practical manual.
